Acetylcysteine Injection BP

Description

Product details

Mucanix 400 Injection & Mucanix Injection Generic Name: Acetylcysteine (N-Acetylcysteine / NAC) Pharmacopoeial Standard: BP Mucanix 400 Injection and Mucanix Injection contain Acetylcysteine, a medicine with mucolytic and antidotal properties. Acetylcysteine helps break down thick mucus by disrupting disulfide bonds in mucus proteins, thereby reducing mucus viscosity. More importantly for injectable acetylcysteine, it is widely used as an antidote in acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose. In paracetamol toxicity, acetylcysteine helps restore glutathione, which supports detoxification of the harmful paracetamol metabolite NAPQI and helps protect the liver from serious injury. Available Variants Product Active Ingredient Strength/Form Mucanix 400 Injection Acetylcysteine BP 400 mg* Mucanix Injection Acetylcysteine BP Injection — exact strength to be verified *Please verify whether 400 represents the total amount per ampoule/vial and confirm the concentration and volume from the product pack. Dosage The dosage and administration of Acetylcysteine Injection depend significantly on its indication. For paracetamol overdose, treatment is based on factors such as: Patient's body weight Time since ingestion Paracetamol concentration Clinical condition Liver function tests Applicable treatment protocol Injectable acetylcysteine should be prepared and administered by qualified healthcare professionals according to the approved product information and established clinical protocol. Precautions Obtain a history of previous hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine. Use additional caution in patients with asthma or bronchospastic disease. Monitor the patient during intravenous administration for hypersensitivity or anaphylactoid reactions. Blood pressure should be monitored when clinically indicated. For paracetamol overdose, liver function and other relevant laboratory parameters require appropriate monitoring. Preparation and dilution instructions should be followed carefully. Pregnancy and breastfeeding should be assessed by a healthcare professional. Side Effects Possible adverse effects include: Nausea Vomiting Flushing Rash Itching Headache Intravenous administration can occasionally produce more significant reactions such as: Hypotension Bronchospasm Wheezing Angioedema Tachycardia Anaphylactoid/hypersensitivity reactions Warning Mucanix Injection should be administered under appropriate medical supervision. Intravenous acetylcysteine can cause acute hypersensitivity/anaphylactoid reactions, particularly during the early stages of administration. Patients should therefore be appropriately monitored.
